A chaotic situation broke out at Vreed-en-Hoop stelling Friday evening when scores of persons gathered to travel with the boats. The passengers were travelling to Region Three and some were travelling from Region Four to Vreed-en-Hoop. Most of the passengers were heading from work.

Persons who travelled from Region Three to Region Four had to stand for long hours before they came off the boat. There were high tides and compounded with that over two hundred persons gathered without observing the Covid-19 guidelines of social distancing.

Persons had to bully their way out of the crowd and although boat operators were requesting space for passengers to use as pathway to walk out from the boats, persons kept rushing. Persons were very uncomfortable during the process and questioned what are the Health Authorities doing to ensure that Covid-19 guidelines are observed.

“This is the situation [there is] no one here to implement any system and everyone just boring through the crowd, this is very unhealthy and a disgrace to the health system” a passenger quarreled.

Passengers utilizing the service are calling on Maritime Administration Department to implement a proper service and also the Ministry of Health to implement systems to avoid the crowds at the ports of entry and exit.
