Local gov’t body dismisses seven city employees

The Local Government Commission (LGC) today announced that it had summarily dismissed seven employees of the city over alleged serious misconduct.

In a statement, the  LGC identified the employees as:

Kim Forbes – Tax Collection Officer/Supervisor

Kurt Clarke – Tax Collection Officer/Supervisor

Makeisha Smith – Cashier

Crystal Sinclair – Cashier

Sonya Pitt – Clerk III

Kurt Singh – Clerk III

Terica Haley – Clerk II

The LGC said that the dismissals were consequent to the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown notifying it of suspected financial irregularities in the City Treasurer’s Department. The seven persons were then sent on leave to facilitate a full investigation into the alleged fraudulent activities.

The LGC said that at the conclusion of the investigation, it was determined that the seven had been participants in fraudulent financial activities and had breached their fiduciary duties to the city. The dismissals took effect from November 2, 2021.

The statement said that the LGC also took a decision to revert the Acting City Treasurer, John Douglas to his substantive position of Accounting Manager and appointed Edwana Miller to perform the duties, in an acting capacity, of City Treasurer.
