The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) yesterday recognized children of uniformed and civilian personnel, with certificates and monetary awards for their outstanding performances at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) Examinations.
A release from the GDF said that those who succeed at the CSEC Examination receive the Chief of Staff Award for Academic Excellence and the NGSA students receive bursaries. This year the Force awarded a total of 32 children whose parents work at various units across the Force at different levels.
Chief of Staff, Brigadier Godfrey Bess, Colonel General Staff, Colonel Julius Skeete and other Senior Officers presented the awards.
The release said that Christann Harmon, a former student of Saint John’s College won the Chief of Staff award for Academic Excellence having attained seven grade ones and two grade twos at the recent CSEC Examinations. The aspiring economist is currently pursuing a degree in Business Economics at the University of Guyana. She is the daughter of Warrant Officer Class One, Christopher Harmon.
Meanwhile, Christian Harmon and De Candi Waldron, the children of Commander Sean Harmon and Staff Sergeant Deon Waldron, respectively, tied as this year’s NGSA top performers. They were awarded places at Queen’s College. Aqueena Pompey and Nathan Joseph were just one point away and were also awarded places at Queen’s College.
The other bursary awardees are Makaylah Poole, Isaiah Paul, Quince Clarke, Chrisante Gilead, Makhi Simpson, Chrishawn Bullen, Tinashe Craig, Oswald Marcus, Ciara Gray, Brandon Nurse, Shanice Alleyne, Shaniah George, Malachi Woodroffe, Ezekiel Wishart, D’ Atra Moses, Hakeem Joyce, Clint Jacobs, Trishan Zammgtt, Tinae Cupido, Arianna Gaskin, Rondell Carter, Tariq Prass, Lee Squire, Kwesi Layne, Ihesha Lyte, Keron Smith, Kethora Defreitas.
