The current Administration’s failure to strengthen its understanding of the costs associated with the oil and gas sector gives pause and reduces confidence in the Administration’s ability to make prudent fiscal decisions. Its inability to audit what is by far one of the largest expenditures in our Nation’s history is a sign of utter incompetence, and the Ministry of Finance needs to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their neglect to carry out the Nation’s business. It also brings into question other planned major expenditures such as the gas to shore project and the Amaila Falls undertaking. “Waste not want not” is the lesson we teach to our children and our leadership must also set the example. The Adminis-tration must tighten its belt and ensure that no further waste of the Nation’s hard earned funds occurs in the future. The magnitude of this error with Exxon calls for a major restructuring within the Ministry of Finance and the current Administration. Those responsible must be held accountable. We as a Nation cannot afford to continue to be wasteful and irresponsible in how our treasury is managed, especially while our citizens continue to struggle with putting clothes on their children’s backs and putting three square meals on the table. The funds that could have been saved as a result of the audit would have been very helpful in strengthening our flood prevention infrastructure. CRG calls for an immediate & urgent change, and urges the current Administration to take the necessary steps to ensure that no such lapse in fiscal prudence occurs again in the future.
