A new Windies selection panel must pick a young team with an eye on the next World Cup

Dear Editor,

In my last letter to the press, just prior to the ICC T20 World Cup, I predicted that the team that the Roger Harper led selection panel selected would not win the World Cup. In fact, their performance was atrocious and embarrassing and the West Indies Cricket Board must take decisive action now to remedy the situation and start the rebuilding process to make the West Indies team great, again.

To begin with, the Roger Harper selection panel contract which ends at the end of the year, should not be renewed. A new selection panel should be appointed and I would recommend Brian Lara, Curtly Ambrose and Shiv Chanderpaul. These men would select the best team and not show favouritism or insularity. Finally, the new selectors must pick a young team with an eye on the next World Cup. My captain would be Shimron Hetmyer with Nicholas Pooran as the vice-captain with the core being Evin Lewis, Chanderpaul Hemraj, Sherfane Rutherford, Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, Dominic Drakes, Odean Smith, Akeal Hussain and Gudakesh Motie. The next five players would consist of an off spinner, a leg spinner, a fast bowler and two more quality attacking batsmen.

So come on Ricky Skerritt and Kishore Shallow, put West Indies cricket first and fulfill your mandate that you promised cricket fans by making the West Indies team the best in the world. We, the cricket fans, are waiting and watching your next move after the debacle of the last World Cup.

Sincerely,

Imtiaz Baccus
