GuySuCo has never faced a shortage of competent staff

Dear Editor,

Reference is made to “The challenge ahead for GuySuCo is formidable” (SN Nov 23) by Dr. Tara Singh. I agree that fixing or transforming GuySuCo is a major challenge. Government has committed enough resources to get the job done. And it can be done with a good effective, competent, transformational manager (CEO). The main challenge at GuySuCo has not been management or shortage of staff. Since the new government took over in August 2020, the major challenge has been the manager, the CEO, and not the staff. GuySuCo has never faced a shortage of competent staff (engineers, managers, supervisors, etc.) to undertake the resuscitation of the industry. The problems at the company were outlined. Concerns have been made known to the responsible Minister and the President and Vice President. Government has not addressed those concerns.

Sincerely,

Samuel Gittens
