COVID booster shots available to 18 and over – ministry

The Ministry of Health yesterday announced that COVID-19 vaccine booster doses will now be available for persons 18 and older.

Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony during his daily COVID-19 update said that booster doses as of yesterday were expanded.

“As of today we will be opening up booster doses for anyone 18 years and older, you would now be able to get a booster dose,” he said.

The previous criterion,  he noted, where persons had to be 50 years or older has now been expanded and as such anyone who has received both doses of a two-dose regimen after some six months is now eligible to receive a booster. Anthony did not state the reason for opening up the booster category.

Meanwhile, during the update, Dr. Anthony stated that some 403,537 adults have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine accounting for some 78.7% of the adult population. As it relates to second doses just 55.1% of the adult population has been fully inoculated accounting for some 282,567 persons.

The health minister mentioned that some 2,774 persons have received booster doses. He encouraged persons to go out and get their vaccines.
