A missing 25-year-old West Coast Berbice man was found dead last evening in a decomposed state at the Number 11 Village backdam, leaving his family in a state of shock with lingering questions about how he met his end.

Rackesh Ramcharran, also known as ‘Bull’ and ‘Baby,’ who was a worker at the Blairmont Estate, was reported missing on November 25, after he left home for work and never returned.

According to his father, Devanand Ramcharran, 48, his son is originally from Blairmont Village, West Bank Berbice, but after he got married in 2016, he relocated to Number 11 Village, West Coast Berbice to reside with his wife.

The man said that his daughter-in-law told him that Rackesh left for work around 10 am on November 25 with his haversack but after he didn’t return they decided to contact the police at the Fort Wellington and Blairmont Police Stations, located within the district.

The father last evening said that they began searching tirelessly for his son but it was only until late yesterday afternoon that one of his daughters informed him that a body was found at the Number 11 backlands and that it was suspected to be that of her brother.

According to the father, he was told that the young man was found hanging in the backlands. His body has since been removed and taken to the Bailey’s Funeral Parlour.

“Me go to identify he body and when me go he get on the shirt that he left house with to go work and that is the shirt I give him,” the emotional father said last evening.

Additionally, Ramcharran’s national identification card and his bank card were both found in his pocket, “and he does always walk with that anywhere he go,” the father said.

Meanwhile, the deceased man’s relatives are desperate for answers as they are unaware as to what could have happened to him. Pointing out that his son had no reason to be in the Number 11 backlands, the father said, “It’s very strange; we don’t know what happen but that is very strange.”

Additionally, the man pointed out that to his knowledge his son did not have any issues with anyone nor was he experiencing any sort of difficulties.

The father is calling for a thorough investigation to be done.

He noted that police have since informed him that a post-mortem examination is likely to be done on Friday so as to ascertain the cause of his son’s death.

Ramcharran was described as a friendly and helpful individual. His father recalled that shortly before he went missing he visited their home and assisted his brother with construction work.
