Haslington conductor stabbed to death at `44 bus park

A minibus conductor was stabbed to death during an argument at the Route 44 bus park yesterday and his attacker turned himself in to the police hours after a wanted bulletin was issued for him.

Dead is Morven Nurse, 30, of Haslington, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Nurse was stabbed once in his chest during the incident which occurred around 11am at Commerce Street, Georgetown. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he succumbed while undergoing emergency surgery.

Hours after the stabbing, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) issued a wanted bulletin for the suspect who has been identified as Paul Junior Lynch, 27, of Lot 1276 Bachelor’s Adventure, ECD.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum later confirmed that Lynch surrendered at the Brickdam Police Station. He was accompanied by his lawyer.

“They then began to pelt each other with empty beer bottles and bricks before the suspect (Lynch) allegedly stabbed the victim with a knife to …(the) left side (of his) chest,” the report explained.

Nurse ran a short distance before falling to the ground. Lynch escaped in a minibus.

When Stabroek News visited the scene yesterday, the area had been cordoned off by crime scene investigators who had begun their investigation.

Vendors who ply their trade around the area described Lynch as a troublemaker. “He always around hay looking fah trouble,” one man said.

A vendor, who wished not to be named told this newspaper that he left to go to the market for a short period and when he returned the incident unfolded. “Them two did fighting and he (Lynch) just bore the man (Nurse) up,” he said.

Reports are that the argument erupted over $120.

In a video which captured the argument between the two men and which was seen by Stabroek News, Lynch who had a knife in his hand picked up two bricks and threw them in the direction of Nurse.

Nurse who was across the road and had a beer bottle case in his hand tried to avoid getting hit and made an attempt to pelt Nurse.

The sound of glass shattering was then heard and Nurse was subsequently seen staggering.
