Education Ministry denies official moved for political reasons

The Ministry of Education yesterday rejected as “inaccurate and mischievous” a statement attributed to APNU+AFC Member of Parliament Sherod Duncan where he alleged that ministry official Fazal Ali was replaced by Darshini Balac for political reasons.

In a statement, the ministry said: “The truth is that Mr. Fazal Ali was hired on  the 1st April 2015 to be the Co-ordinator of the Ministry of Education’s Book Distribution Unit (BDU) when the Honourable Priya Manickchand was serving as minister.

“In 2020 Mr. Ali indicated his desire to  move from the unit as its co-ordinator and indicated an interest in working in the Planning Unit of the Ministry. That request was facilitated and Mr Ali now enjoys the position of Planning Officer in the Ministry of Education”.

A young Guyanese who had been employed by the Ministry of Education for in excess of 6 years, the statement said that Balac demonstrated remarkable leadership and organizational qualities and was offered the position of Co-ordinator of the BDU which she accepted and “has been doing extremely good work there thus far”.
