Linden taxi driver shot, robbed

Police are on the hunt for two bandits who shot and robbed a Linden taxi driver of more than $300,000 in gold jewellery shortly after he arrived home on Tuesday night.

According to a police statement, the incident occurred around 19.00hrs at Phase One B, Wisroc, Wismar, Linden.

The 35-year-old taxi driver, who was not named by the police was shot once in his thigh during the ordeal. His attackers escaped with his gold chain and ring worth $360,000.

The police said investigations revealed that the victim arrived home in his vehicle and parked in the garage.

Upon, exiting the vehicle, the police said the victim heard loud explosions which sounded like gunshots.

Shortly after, the victim was confronted by the bandits, both of whom were armed with a  handgun.

“Both suspects forced the victim to kneel and relieved him of the jewelry, after which one of the perpetrators punctured two of the car tires with a knife,” the statement explained.

Although the victim begged for his life, the police said the armed suspect shot him in his thigh.

The suspects then fled on foot.

An alarm was raised and the victim was taken to the Linden Hospital where he was treated and admitted. His condition is listed as stable.

As of yesterday, the suspects remain on the run.
