The police today said that a woman of Belvedere Village, Corentyne, Berbice, Meliene Magalie reported that that she had been beaten by her husband on Old Year’s Night and her abode later set afire.
The police said that Magalie’s husband is the suspect in the matter.
Magalie told the police that her husband had threatened to set the building on fire after he slapped and cuffed her in her face. She told the police that she went away to her relatives where she alerted them about the assault and threats made by her husband. Moments later she saw that her home was engulfed in flames.
The Rose Hall Town Fire Service was summoned but could not save the 14 feet by 12 feet property which was completely gutted.
Efforts were made to contact the husband to no avail, the police said.
