Applicants for 2022 scholarships should begin preparing documents – GOAL

The Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) is advising that persons who wish to apply for scholarships offered in 2022, should begin preparing their documents for their applications.

GOAL stated in a post on its Facebook page that the programmes to be offered in 2022 will be announced shortly. Hence, it suggested that persons should start getting their documents prepared so as to facilitate a seamless application process. Each applicant should have an email address that is already created before applying for a scholarship as emailing is the primary mode of communication amongst GOAL, the universities, and the applicants. The applicants’ email address should follow the format of Firstname.Lastname@gmail.com.

Applicants should also have access to a mobile or landline telephone number to ensure direct communication is maintained. Applicants should also provide the name and contact information of an individual who can be reached in the event of GOAL having challenges contacting the applicants themselves. The eligibility for scholarships and admission into any of the universities is determined based on the key documents submitted with the application.

The forms of academic certificates that should be submitted with the application include, (I) Academic Board Certificates from the Caribbean Examinations Council. These include Caribbean Secondary Education Certificates, or Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Education or General Certificates of Education. (II) Diplomas from the Government Technical Institute, Cyril Potter College of Education, Guyana School of Agriculture, and University of Guyana. (III) Graduate degrees from any accredited university whether locally or international.

A copy of the bio data page of the applicant’s passport or national identification card is required, as well as an updated curriculum vitae (CV) with details of work experience. The CV should include two references including their names, designation, email addresses and contact numbers. It was further noted that the academic documents and identification documents should be certified by a Justice of Peace or Commissioner of Oaths. All of the above-mentioned documents should be scanned in PDF format.

GOAL is the institution tasked with managing the overall operational and functional components of the 20,000 free online scholarships initiative over the next five years.  Dr Jacob Opadeyi is GOAL’s Director. Awardees of the scholarships will benefit from studies at five accredited and recognised institutions – the Indira Gandhi Open University, the Jain University, the University of Applied Sciences, the University of Southern Caribbean, and the University of the West Indies Open Campus.
