The lowdown on pre-workout supplements

Many of you have decided to start your fitness journey in 2022, so here is a tool for your toolbox: a pre-workout supplement.

Being active and energized are important to your journey and both require adequate fuel. I have been using pre-workout supplements which give me the super charge I need to be ready to go for a tough workout session.

Pre-workout supplements, taken approximately 30 minutes prior to your workout, will help to give you an added boost of energy and the focus you may need.

Do you really need a pre-workout supplement to train? Is it a necessity? The short answer is no, not at all. However, it does come with multiple benefits, which can aid your sessions

You should know that there are two types of pre-workout supplements – stimulant based, and pump based.

A supplement that is stimulant based is designed to give you the energy boost to fuel your session when you’re tired or fatigued from work/life.

A pump-based supplement is designed to improve blood flow around the body, to the working muscles and give you that pumped and full look

Alternatively, you can stack one of each as I tend to do to get the best of both worlds.

Pros of using a pre-workout supplement

●             You have increased energy

●             You feel stronger

●             You look bigger when pumped

Cons of using a pre-workout supplement

●  You can become dependent on it, making you feel like you can’t train without it

●  If it is taken too late in the day, it can affect your sleep, specifically your REM sleep

● Some ingredients make you feel itchy and hot which can be uncomfortable

● It can be costly; you might spend $6,000 – $12,000 on it each month
