COVID-19 test positivity falling – Anthony

While there are currently over 11,000 active COVID-19 cases in the country, Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony yesterday  revealed that the country’s positivity rate has been falling.

Dr. Anthony made these remarks during his daily COVID-19 update on Monday where he stated that there are currently some 11,610 active cases across the country. Of that number he stated that 133 persons are in hospital with 88 of those at the Liliendaal Infectious Diseases Hospital while 11 of them are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.

He noted that over the past 24 hours some 119 new cases were reported and this can be seen as a significant decrease in comparison to earlier in the month. “This number came down from what it was a couple days ago and what we have noticed is that there have been a downward trend over the last two weeks or so,” he said.

It was then he stated that the positivity rate has been falling, which means that out of the amount of tests being done, the number of persons showing up positive has been decreasing. He revealed that just about 1.6% of persons who have been infected have been hospitalized and most of those persons in hospital would recover.

He added, “Also since a lot of the persons are not coming into the hospital after about 7 days after they would have tested positive they can go back to work.”

Cases and deaths had surged in recent weeks here and this had been attributed to the likely advent here of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
