Region Two now offering dental treatment in outlying communities

Dental services are now available within various satellite communities in Region Two according to Regional Health Officer (RHO) Dr Ranjeev Singh who made this disclosure at the Region’s Statutory meeting held on Wednesday.

Dr Singh noted that with the procurement of new dental chairs in 2021, the region is now equipped to provide service to the people of Essequibo. And according to the new schedule, dental services are available at Good Hope from Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and at Queenstown on Friday.

Dental services are also available at the regional hospitals at Charity and Suddie. The Lady “J” dental boat will also be put into operation to serve the Pomeroon communities. Dr Singh told the Regional Democratic Council  that the Ministry of Health is working to ensure that primary health care services are available within the communities. He also pointed out that the dental clinic has significantly reduced the burden on the regional hospitals and more persons are now seeking the service at their respective health centres.

Region Two Chairperson Vilma De Silva said that she is happy that dental services are now available to various catchment areas in the region. She noted that oftentimes persons would flock to Suddie or Charity to access the service and would have to endure long waiting times. As such, the chairperson commended the RHO for ensuring that such an essential service is available to the people of the region.

Another councillor, Melrose Henry expressed her pleasure upon learning that the dental team will be at Queenstown. Henry, who is the chairman of the Region’s Hinterland Committee, said that the residents at Capoey would be able to access the service at Queenstown.
