Linden defeats Royals in Mining Town derby

A new champion was crowned in the second  Rawle Toney 3×3 Basketball Classic after  Linden defeated Royals in a Mining Town derby  Sunday at the Burnham Court on Middle and Carmichael Streets.

Linden replaced previous holders Pit-bulls at the helm of the emerging format, prevailing in a tense 10-minute affair 8-7 in front of a sizable crowd at the recently refurbished venue.

With the win, Linden walked away with $500,000 and the championship trophy. They also walked away with four championship rings. Shelroy Thomas was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.

In the semi-finals, Linden secured their place in the championship match after defeating East Coast Demerara powerhouse Guardians 15-13 while Royals eliminated defending champion Pit-bulls 7-5.

In the third-place playoff, Guardians gained a  walkover from defending champion Pit-bulls, who opted against competing.
