Three octogenarians among four latest COVID-19 fatalities

The Ministry of Health on Saturday announced that four more persons who tested positive with COVID-19 have succumbed.

In a statement, the Health Ministry reported that a 53-year-old man, an 81-year-old man and an 89-year-old woman, all from Pomeroon-Supenaam, and an 89-year-old man from Demerara-Mahaica are the latest COVID-19 fatalities. Three of them were unvaccinated while the vaccination status of the other was given as “unknown.”

The deaths were recorded between February 5 and February 25. The deaths bring the total number of COVID-19 fatalities in Guyana to 1,220. 

Meanwhile, the updated COVID-19 daily dashboard showed that 35 new cases were recorded, with Region Three recording three new cases, Region Four recording 25, Region Five recording Two, Region Seven recording three new cases and Region Nine recording two. Regions One, Two, Six, Eight and Ten did not record new cases. The new cases were confirmed following 1,385 tests conducted on Friday.

The new cases increased the country’s total number of cases to date to 62,891. The dashboard also showed 10 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 702 persons in home isolation, 30 persons in institutional isolation and 12 persons in institutional quarantine.
