Jeremiah Duncan along with Vergenoegen and Berbice Jammers Boxing Gyms took home the marquee titles when the Pepsi/Mike Parris U-16 Championships was staged yesterday at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Gym.

The standout pugilist from the Young Achievers Boxing gym, earned the coveted best boxer award for the 11th edition of the tournament while Vergenoegen and Berbice Jammers were joint winners for the Best Gym trophy.

On a day when the nation’s U-16 boxing stars were on display, Duncan shone the brightest.

Duncan, who started boxing just last year, stopped his 52kg opponent, Steffon Prince in a clinical display to earn the best boxer honors. His elated coach, Clifton Barker,  praised his charge following his heroics, uttering the phrase ‘best boxer’ repeatedly.

Meanwhile, in arguably the most punch-filled and exciting bout of the day, Garvey Hyman won a close decision over a game Daniel Pompey in their 66kg contest.

At the event which was graced by the presence of Guyana’s lone Olympic medalist, Michael Parris, boxers from the Vergenogen and Berbice Jammers Boxing Gyms recorded four wins apiece to jointly claim the Best Gym honors.

Daniel Alleyne (30kg), Ezekiel Bancroft (37kg), Markel Blue (44kg), Eon Bancroft Jr. (57kg), Joshua Haniff (60kg), Demal Grimond (63kg), and Jevon Lewis (64kg) were among the boxers in the winner’s row at the one-day fixture.
