Corentyne beer garden owner injured in attack by customers

A Corentyne businessman is now nursing injuries to his head and hand after he was attacked by three customers on Tuesday evening after he informed that he would be closing his shop earlier than usual.

Mohamed Razeck, 43, of Lot 343 Number 77 Village, Corentyne, operates a grocery store and beer garden at the location which also houses a Superbet location. He said he would usually close his shop around 9 pm, however, on Tuesday he decided to close up around 8.30 pm.

“I went out and I drink some beers so when I come home I tell my wife let we close up early and when I tell them them annoyed with me and them start cuss up me and me argue back with them.”

He then asked them to leave and at the same time there was a power outage after which he felt someone attacking him with a broken bottle.

“Be time me turn the current go off and then he buss the bottle and start hit me, and one had one cutlass and one had one wood but when them bore me them run and get away.”

He said his wife then rushed to his assistance and transported him with a taxi to the Skeldon Public Hospital. Razeck received over 20 stitches in total for his injuries and has to return every day to the hospital to dress and clean his wounds.

“Me try fa bar with me hand because them been a fire chop too and that’s why me hand get this.”

According to the businessman, all three men were sober during the attack but were annoyed that the Superbet would be closed. He said the trio resides in the said street and would visit the Superbet every day.

As of yesterday afternoon police had not made any arrest in the matter.
