School guard chopped in pre-dawn attack

Police in Regional Division #10 are probing the wounding of a security guard during an attack at Saint Aiden’s Primary School at Blueberry Hill, Wismar, by two unidentified males with cutlasses.

The victim of the attack was Swayn David, 26, of Wismar, Linden, who was up to yesterday said to be in a serious but stable condition at the Georgetown Hospital.

The Guyana Police Force said in a statement yesterday that the motive behind the attack, which occurred around 04:30 hrs, was unclear.

David, the GPF reported, was sleeping in the guard hut when he felt a chop to the back of his head. “He then observed one of the suspects standing over him with a cutlass, who dealt him another chop to his forehead and as he managed to exit the guard hut he was confronted by the other suspect who dealt him a chop to his left hand.”

He told police that he managed to run away and went to the Wismar Hospital Complex, from where he was later transferred to the Mackenzie Hospital. He was later referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
