With regards to the recently launched National Job Bank which seeks to match employers with prospective employees thereby reducing unemployment and under-employment in Guyana this low cost approach to tackle the problem in Guyana is a good approach.
I have taken the opportunity to visit the site at www.jobs.gov.gy.
Currently, there are 31 jobs advertised which can be accessed via online access (meaning, computer, smart phone or tablet with Internet access).
The site is intuitive, user friendly and responsive, although I have not actually registered as either a prospective employee or employer.
The only problem I envisage is that many people without online access will miss out. This is why it is imperative to follow up with Internet cafés in the city, towns and villages so that people without Internet access will not be disadvantaged. At these Internet cafés the concept of Job clubs can be promoted whereby prospective employees can be given the required information or training to get a job of their choosing.
I understand that the National Job Bank is still in its infancy and is a forward thinking progressive approach.
The alternative would be to build costly jobs centres in the city, towns and villages to do exactly what the online National Job Bank will do.
