BV among winners as floodlight football continues

Beterverwagting (BV), Rosignol United and Haslington secured hard-fought elimination wins when the ‘Buxton Diamond’ Inter-Village/Block Floodlight Football Championship continued Sunday at the Buxton Community Centre ground.

In the main engagement of the evening, BV overcame traditional rival Victoria Kings 1-0 while Rosignol United of Berbice battled past Brush Dam 2-1. In the opening match, Haslington needled Mahaica 1-0.

On Saturday at the same venue, another elimination round of matches was conducted with Team Diamond, Liliendaal, and Friendship Front recording victories. Team Diamond made light work of Paradise 4-1 in the feature clash while Friendship Front squeaked past Church Yard 2-1. Likewise, Liliendaal edged Annandale 1-0.

The event continues Sunday at the same venue with four matches. In the opening fixture at 16:00hrs, No. #5 will match skills with Airy Hall, while the second matchup will pit Vigilance 1800 All-stars against 50 United from 18:00hrs.

In the third clash, Belle West will oppose Ann’s Grove at 20:00hrs, while the final fixture of the night will witness Golden Grove locking horns with Melanie from 22:00hrs.

Winner of the event will receive $500,000 and the championship trophy, while the second place finisher will pocket $350,000 and the respective accolade. The third and fourth place finisher will walk away with $250,000 and $100,000 apiece and the corresponding accolade.

On the individual side, the eventual Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the competition will receive a Luminous branded motorcycle. The event is scheduled to conclude April 16th.
