Please permit me some space to offer a public clarification on The Citizenship Initiative’s (TCI’s) submission of campaign financial statements for contesting the 2020 General Elections. In accordance with Chapter 12 Section, 108 (1) of the Representation of the People’s Act, The Citizenship Initiative (TCI) submitted to GECOM ‘Election Expenses’, as a declaration of TCI’s related election expenses incurred between March 2nd – Aug 2nd 2020. TCI acknowledges that the stipulated 35-day period had already passed, but due to the now historical circumstances that almost derailed the electoral process of 2020, the party was unable to submit, in light of all the mitigation efforts in which TCI played its part, to salvage the election. Had the process gone smoothly, every effort would have been made to submit the expenses well within the stipulated period.
TCI hopes GECOM, in good faith, recognizes these extenuating circumstances that posed uncharted challenges for the party (and many others contesting) and accepts the submission accordingly. TCI also submitted campaign finance records in the interest of total transparency and accountability. It is my firm commitment, on behalf of TCI, that our party will adhere to all provisions stipulated when contesting any future elections. We thank the Guyanese public for their encouragement and support, and look forward to building trust, and leading by example, as we look to evolve Guyana for all citizens.
