Missing East Bank girl found with injuries

Police are investigating the alleged kidnapping of an 18-year-old East Bank Demerara (EBD) girl, who was found with injuries about her body yesterday afternoon, one day after she went missing.

The teenager’s father last night told Stabroek News that she was found on the Kitty seawall around 6.30 pm yesterday by an individual who is known to the family.

He said the teenager’s body bore burns, her hair had been chopped off and it is suspected that she was sexually assaulted. “She got a lot of marks of violence. Burn, like when them take something hot and burn her. They cut off her hair,” the man said.

Up to last night, she remained at a city hospital where she was undergoing a medical examination.

According to the father, the teenager left home on Monday to transact business for a relative at a city bank. After she was finished, she went to purchase food and then proceeded to the bus park to head home.

However, before she could have boarded a minibus, an object was placed over her head and she was taken into a motor car. “She seh all she could remember is somebody put something over she head and she ain’t know nothing after that,” he said.

As time passed and she did not return home, family members became worried and tried to contact her but calls and messages to her phone went unanswered. As a result, they began to search for her and informed the police.

According to the father, while he was searching in Grove, EBD for his daughter yesterday afternoon, he received a call that she had been found. “When we asked her what happened, she said some black car was tracing her and they put something on over she head,” the man added.

The father said the teenager related that she was unconscious until she was tossed out of the car at an unknown location.

The man said he has no idea who would want to hurt his daughter. He said she does not have any issue with anyone and was scheduled to start a new job yesterday.

A police investigation is ongoing into the matter.
