President should apologise to civil society

Dear Editor,

Criticism for the sake of criticism is no criticism at all as it lacks objectivity.

It is imperative that Civil Society becomes more involved in holding the Government accountable, ensuring that the Government is transparent and practices good governance.

The PPP/C Government is acting like they are Master of the people rather than Servants of the people. Such hubris does not bode well where Guyana’s social and political wellbeing is concerned.

Any Government that ignores objective criticism is fooling themselves that they know best and no other stakeholder, whether it is the political opposition or Civil Society, should have a say.

My advice to President Irfaan Ali is to apologise to Civil Society. Irfaan Ali is not going to be President forever.

Yours faithfully,

Sean Ori
