A 19-year-old marketing clerk was arrested yesterday morning after a search at her Tucville, Georgetown home unearthed over 37 pounds of cannabis hidden under her bed.

In a press release, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch, acting on information received, went to the young woman’s Perry Street, Tucville, Georgetown house, where searches were conducted on the premises.

During the searches, the release said, ranks found two brown boxes containing several rectangular brown parcels under the teenager’s bed.

The parcels, which were opened in the teen’s presence, reportedly contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be cannabis sativa, the police added.

The teenager was told of the offence committed, arrested and escorted to the Narcotics Branch where the suspected cannabis was weighed. It amounted to 37.7 pounds, which is equivalent to 17.1 kilograms.
