CANU intercepts minibus with cocaine and firearm, three arrested

The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) on Wednesday intercepted a minibus at Tuschen Public Road, East Bank Essequibo and found a quantity of cocaine and a firearm.  Three men were arrested.

According to a CANU release, on Wednesday March, 30th, CANU officers acting on information, intercepted a Route 32 minibus and carried out a search.

The search led to the discovery of 10 parcels of suspected cocaine and one Smith & Wesson .40 calibre pistol with a magazine containing eight bullets.

The driver, Ackeem Brumell, 31, and two other occupants identified as 46-year-old Gary Toney, and Oliton Sobers, 28, were arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters with the suspected canna-bis.

CANU said that the narcotics tested positive for cocaine and had a total weight of 11.4 Kilograms (Kg) with a street value of approximately $12.5M.

Investigations are said to be ongoing.
