Correction to Diaspora Column

Dear Editor,

I am the writer of the article carried in the SN Diaspora Column on March 28 of this year. This is the link to the online version: https://www.stabroeknews.com/2022/03/28/features/in-the-diaspora/the-violence-of-the-border-the-everyday-reality-for-haitians-in-the-region/

I must apologise, because there was an error, which was corrected in the online version, but not in the paper version. I point the error out below:

The error is in the final sentence of paragraph 9:

“She accused the UN of financing the gangs that are terrorizing the people, and called out Helen La Lime, Special Representative of the Secretary General for Haiti and Head of the UN Mission for Justice Support in Haiti (MINUJUSTH) for praising the federation of gangs.”

This should be corrected to:

She asserted that the United Nations are supporting a government that is financing the gangs  who are terrorizing the people, and called out Helen La Lime, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Haiti and Head of the UN Mission, Bureau Intégré des Nations Unies en Haïti (BINUH), for committing the outrage of praising the federation of Haitian gangs at the very seat of the UN Security Council!

Please also forgive this delay in alerting you and do what you think is proper to see that this correction is made.

Respectfully,

Charlene Wilkinson
