No response from Minister on performance dates for cultural centre

Dear Editor,

Al Creighton in his arts page column in the Sunday Stabroek (10th April, 2022), has asked the question “Theatre returns, or does it?”, primarily at the National Cultural Centre. The answer is ‘probably not’, judging from my recent experience.

I have written the Minister of Culture, Youth & Sports since March 10th, as directed by the Administrative Manager of the National Cultural Centre (this is now the new norm) requesting performance dates, late May /early June for The Link Show 36. To date I have not received even an acknowledgement of my letter nor a response to my enquiry to the Minister’s office.

As has always been the practice, producers wrote to the Administrative Manager of the National Cultural Centre (NCC) to apply for dates for scheduling their shows.

It appears now that the use of the NCC is subject to the sole discretion of the Minister.

Yours faithfully,

Gem Madhoo
