The young woman’s body was identified by her parents and the PME was conducted by Dr Nehaul Singh. The body was then handed over to her family for burial.

Walks was allegedly fatally stabbed on Tuesday by her boyfriend, Joel Spooner, 21, at their Craig, East Bank Demerara (EBD) apartment which they had shared.

The police had initially reported that the killing occurred between 15:30 hrs on Tuesday and 11:45 hrs on Wednesday, when the young woman’s body was found at Lot 311, Craig, Public Road, EBD.

According to the police report, the couple had a misunderstanding on Tuesday afternoon when Walks reportedly armed herself with a knife. Spooner then tried to take the knife away from her and allegedly ended up stabbing her to the left side of her neck. Immediately after the incident, the man became fearful, locked up the house, and left.

Later, at about 08:00 hrs, he contacted his aunt and brother and related what had happened to them. They then accompanied him to the Grove Police Station, where he gave himself up to the police. He remains in custody.

Acting on the information they received, ranks visited the apartment where they saw the body of Walks lying on her back beside a bed with a knife stuck in her left side of her neck.

The landlady of the apartment, had previously told this newspaper that she rented the lower flat of the house to Spooner some three years ago and that Walks and her baby boy moved in to live with him some three months ago.

She also recalled that two months back, the man had an altercation with the woman. However, that matter was resolved at the police station.
