(Trinidad Guardian) A manhunt is underway for three gunmen who shot and killed Junior Chase, a soldier with the T&T Defense Force, outside a food outlet in San Fernando on Good Friday morning.
One of the gunmen was shot by Chase, who drew his licensed firearm to defend himself and his common-law wife Crystal.
Investigators said Chase, 35, of Pepper Village, Fyzabad went to buy something to eat with his common-law wife Crystal near Arabian Pot on Cipero Street, when she got into an argument with a man whom she knew.
Chase went to defuse the situation but got into an argument with the man.
Minutes after that, three men pulled up in a car at Cipero Street and began firing on Chase. He returned fire, hitting one of them. Chase was then shot three times in his head.
Soldiers and police officers arrived a short while later and began locking off the city streets in a bid to capture the men. Hospital officials were advised to be on the lookout for the injured suspect.
Chase’s father Leroy said he was a “people’s person.” He said when the gunfire started, Chase protected his common-law wife, saving her life. He said his other son who lives in the United States was alerted and has started making arrangements to return to Trinidad.
