Vijaimal Raj, the man who is wanted over the murder of his wife one week ago at Foulis, East Coast Demerara (ECD) remains on the run.

Director of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit, Mark Ramotar yesterday told Stabroek News that a joint search was carried out in the Enmore backlands by the police, members of the Community Policing Group and residents of the community but the suspect was not located.

Ramotar said efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.

The bloodied body of Savitrie Raj, 57, a mother of three of Lot 563 Foulis, ECD was discovered lying on her bed around 01.00hrs on March 12. She had wounds to her neck and face.

Vijaimal called ‘Zaro,’ 56, who was seen escaping through a window fled the scene. Hours after the incident, the police issued a wanted bulletin for him.

According to Nick, Savitrie’s son-in-law, Vijaimal had assaulted Savitrie in the past and reports were made to the police but they led nowhere.

One of Savitrie’s sisters had said that as a result of the non-action by the police, Savitrie took it upon herself to visit the welfare department and as a result the court proceedings were initiated.

The couple was supposed to make their first court appearance a few weeks back but Vijaimal never showed up and as a result a summons was issued for him.  They were expected to make a court appearance on March 13th, the day after the murder.
