Golden Jaguars turn tables on French Guiana

The Golden Jaguars ended their two match international friendly football series against traditional rival French Guiana 1-1, defeating the host in the final match 2-1  yesterday in the capital city of Cayenne.

Losing the first encounter on Saturday 1-2, the Guyanese rebounded to square the series with an identical scoreline following first half conversions from Kelsey Benjamin, and Jamal Pereira. It was the second victory for recently appointed head coach Jamaal Shabazz, who is in his fourth reign.

The squad, which made the trip overland, comprised: Ronaldo Blair, Sese Norville, Jeremy Garrett, Quincy Adams, Marcus Wilson, Leo Lovell, Nicolai Andrews, Shemar Fraser, Daniel Wilson, Clive Nobrega, Job Caesar, Javier George, Darron Niles, Jemar Harrigan, Ryan Hackett, Trayon Bobb, Benjamin, Ian Dooker, Jermaine Beckles, Pereira, Pernell Schultz, and Osafo Simpson.

The tournament is part of Guyana’s preparation for the Concacaf Nations League. Guyana has been drawn in group B of League ‘B’ in the Concacaf Nations League, when the official draw was conducted Mon-day in Miami, Florida, USA. Guyana (21st), has been drawn with Haiti (7th), Bermuda (19th), and Montserrat (27th).

The Guyanese ended their inaugural campaign with a record of three wins, two losses and a draw. The Golden Jaguars defeated Aruba [4-2, 1-0], as well as Antigua and Barbuda [5-1]. However, they suffered defeats against Jamaica [0-4] and Antigua and Barbuda [1-2]. Guyana recorded a draw against Jamaica [1-1].
