A 24-year-old security guard died on Monday night after crashing into a motorcar on the Ogle railway embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Dead is Alex Amsterdam of Lot 27, Sparendaam Squatting Area, ECD. Amsterdam was employed with OPS Security Service.

Police Commander Khalil Pareshram yesterday told this newspaper that the accident occurred as Amsterdam, who was riding a motorcycle, was heading east on the railway embankment while the motor car was travelling south on the Ogle access road. The motorcycle collided with the car which was in the process of crossing the intersection

Amsterdam’s fiancée, Keisha Forde, yesterday told Stabroek News that he was returning home when the accident occurred. As far as she knows, the accident occurred sometime between 11.30 pm and 11.45 pm in the vicinity of the traffic lights at the Ogle railway embankment.

She also mentioned that at around 12 am, a man went to the house calling for Alex and she responded by saying he was not home.

“When I tell he Alex ain’t come home yet, he said come see this video. I went out and he show me the video and ask if not Alex that? I call he father and he confirm is Alex,” she related.

When Forde subsequently visited the scene, she saw his motorcycle in a corner and his lifeless body on the road. Sometime after, his body was removed from the road by an ambulance and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The family is calling for a thorough investigation into the accident and are demanding to be compensated in some way. Amsterdam has a child on the way. His fiancée is five months pregnant with their first child.
