Man stabbed at Unity seawall

A 19-year-old man is currently hospitalised after he was stabbed during a scuffle on Tuesday night at the Unity, Mahaica seawall.

Suresh Balroop of Mosquito Hall, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara was stabbed in his chest during the incident which occurred around 21.15hrs.

Police yesterday confirmed that the two suspects; a 41-year-old fisherman and a 33-year-old man, both of Unity, Mahaica are currently in custody assisting with the investigation.

Reports are that Balroop and the suspects had a previous misunderstanding some time ago.

On Tuesday night, the police said the suspects and other family members were at the Unity Seawall when Balroop reportedly attacked the suspects with a cutlass.

As a result, the 41-year-old suspect dealt him a lash in his back. A scuffle then ensued during which Balroop was stabbed.

Balroop was taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital and subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted. His condition is listed as stable.
