The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) levelled their three match semifinal series against Castrol Strikers at 1-1, prevailing 3-1 on Friday in the Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA) Senior Men’s League.
Staged at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue, the contest started brightly for the army unit, as they won the first set by a 25-21 score. However, Castrol Strikers, who are currently undergoing a transition, responded in the second stanza, outscoring their opponent 25-17 to restore parity to proceedings.
Nonetheless, any hope of Castrol Strikers securing the lead, and moving one step closer to a place in the final was extinguished, as GDF restored their lead after claiming the third set 25-17. The victory was sealed in the fourth stanza, in the process setting up a decider in the final match of the series, as the army outfit edged Castrol Strikers 25-22.
The deciding fixture will be hosted at the same venue on Tuesday. The eventual victor will face off with powerhouse Eagles in the grand finale.
