Trial set for two over 2016 New Year’s Day killing

The trial of Rocky Lalu and Somar Shako who are accused of the 2016 New Year’s Day killing of Dewaun Anthony Baksh, is set to commence this morning at 9 before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow at the High Court in Demerara.

The indictment against the jointly-charged duo to which they have both pleaded not guilty, is that they murdered the 22-year-old on January 1st, 2016 at Greenwich Park, East Bank Essequibo.

The jury hearing the matter was empaneled yesterday morning.

The State’s case is being presented by Prosecutor Latifah Elliot.

Lalu is being represented by defence attorney Ravindra Mohabir, while Shako will be represented by a battery of attorneys including Konyo Sandi-ford and Narissa Leander.
