Police in Region Seven are probing the murder of a 49-year-old Venezuelan woman, whose body was found buried in a shallow grave with multiple chop wounds on Tuesday at Eteringbang Landing, Cuyuni River.

The dead woman has been identified as Deissy Antury Perdomo. She worked as a clothes vendor and a pork knocker.

The incident occurred sometime between Saturday and Tuesday.

Director of the Guyana Police Force’s  (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit, Mark Ramotar said Perdomo’s  reputed husband was arrested and is currently assisting with the investigation.

He said the police are on the hunt for two Venezuelan men, who were allegedly last seen in the company of Perdomo. Information is that the men have since fled to Venezuela, Ramotar said.

According to a police report, investigations so far have revealed that Perdomo did pork knocking at ‘Cores backdam’, Eteringbang with the two Venezuelan men and her husband.

Her husband left for Venezuela last Friday.

Reports are that the following day, Perdomo was seen leaving the backdam with the Venezuelan men. They were heading to the Eteringbang landing where they were seen shopping for groceries and imbibing alcohol, the police said.

Later the same day, police added that Perdomo and the men were also observed returning to the backdam to their camp.

Perdomo’s husband returned from Venezuela and was unable to contact her. As such, the police said he raised an alarm and a search party was formed to locate her.

Perdomo’s body was later found in a four- feet hole, partly covered with mud and dry leaves, the police said.

Her body bore multiple chop wounds. A police investigation is ongoing.
