Kingston labourer chopped after confrontation over theft

A 23-year-old Kingston labourer is currently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was chopped on Monday afternoon after being accused of stealing.

The victim has been identified as Oslin Lewis of Fort Street, Kingston, Georgetown.

According to the Guyana Police Force, Lewis was playing football at a Laing Avenue, Georgetown playfield when the attack occurred.

Enquiries revealed that about 17:00 hrs on the day mentioned, while Lewis was playing football, the suspect, who was armed with a cutlass, confronted him about stealing from him. The suspect then took the cutlass and dealt Lewis a chop to his right elbow.

The victim was taken to the hospital by public-spirited citizens.

His assailant, who is known to the police, was said to be on the run.
