Several zip-lock bags containing suspected marijuana were found under the counter of a shop at La Parfaite Harmonie on Monday night.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that ranks were on patrol in La Parfaite Harmonie community on Monday at about 23:30 hrs when a search was carried out at the shop and 124 grammes of suspected cannabis were found under the counter.
In a statement, the GPF said that ranks were performing mobile patrol duties when they observed the 35-year-old shop owner standing in the shop and acting suspiciously. As a result, ranks stopped and engaged the man, who eventually agreed to a search.
A search of the man’s premises was conducted and it unearthed a transparent plastic bag, containing several other re-sealable bags containing leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be cannabis.
Police said the man was told of the offence and cautioned, and he denied ownership of the suspected cannabis. He was then arrested and escorted to the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station along with the suspected cannabis.
