La Grange family robbed by armed bandits

Police are on the hunt for two bandits who attacked and robbed a La Grange, West Bank Demerara (WBD) family of over $500,000 in cash and other valuables on Wednesday night.

The victims have been identified as Kumarie Persaud, 40; 21-year-old vendor, Randy Persaud and Radiya Persaud, 18, an employee of Puran Brothers.

Reports are that the robbery occurred around 19.45hrs at the family’s Lot 84 Independence Street, La Grange, WBD house.

Among the items they were relieved of are several cellular phones, a quantity of gold jewellery and cash and important documents including their National Identification cards.

The crime was allegedly committed by two bandits, one of whom was armed with a handgun and the other with an axe.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a press release yesterday said enquiries revealed that the victims were at home when the bandits entered their yard and confronted a relative, Wazir Persaud.

The police said that the bandit who was armed with the gun directed Wazir into the house.

Once there, he and his accomplice confronted the other victims and demanded that they hand over their valuables, the police added.

The suspect then forced the victims into a bedroom and relieved them of the valuables before they fled.

Several persons were questioned as the investigation continues.

The area was also canvassed for surveillance cameras, the police said.
