Soldier beaten, robbed at Linden

Armed bandits on Thursday night attacked and robbed a 24-year-old Guyana Defence Force (GDF) soldier at his South Amelia’s Ward, Linden home.

Police yesterday confirmed that an investigation is ongoing into the robbery which took place around 22.20 hrs.

The soldier who has been identified as Shilon Lawrence was relieved of his IPhone 13 Pro cellular phone worth $300,000.

According to a police report, enquiries revealed that Lawrence went home on his motorcycle, CL 2521, and parked it in his yard.

He then went into the house and secured his jewellery after which he went to his verandah to relax.

Whilst sitting there, the police said Lawrence was confronted by the two armed bandits, who jumped onto his verandah and gunbutted him, causing him to suffer injuries.

They then took his cell phone and motorcycle key which he had in his hand.

One of the suspects discharged a round in the air before he and his accomplice escaped on foot, the police said.

The matter was report to the police. The suspects are yet to be apprehended.

Police recovered one suspected .32 spent shell at the scene.

Lawrence was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated and sent away.
