A man succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday night at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), after he was involved in an accident along Mandela Avenue in Georgetown.

The dead man has been identified as Thakur Rajnarine of Lot 76 Sheriff Street, Campbellville, Georgetown.

According to a police report, Rajnarine was involved in an accident with a 13-year-old pedestrian on Wednesday at about 16:30hrs on Mandela Avenue, in the vicinity of the Botanical Gardens.

The accident involved motorcycle CJ 4459 which was owned and ridden by the deceased at the time.

Investigations revealed that the motorcycle was proceeding south, on the eastern drive lane of Nelson Mandela Avenue, while the 13-year-old pedestrian was crossing the same road, from west to east.

The pedestrian was in the centre of the eastern drive lane, when the front of Rajnarine’s motorcycle came into contact with the teen.

As a result, both Rajnarine and the pedestrian fell onto the road surface with injuries about their bodies.

They were picked up by public-spirited persons and transported to the GPH for medical treatment.

The 13-year-old was treated and sent away, while Rajnarine was treated for abrasions and head injuries, he was subsequently admitted to GPH’s Accident and Emergency Unit.

However, at about 22:10hrs on Wednesday, Rajnarine succumbed to his injuries.

His body is presently at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Further investigations are said to be ongoing.
