Ulverston man missing after mishap in Canje Creek

An Ulverston, Corentyne man is now missing and feared drowned after the boat he was in reportedly capsized in the Canje Creek yesterday around 10.30 am.

Missing is Kevin France, 30, of Ulverston Village, Corentyne.

According to information gathered, Kenton Tyndall also known as ‘Fine Man’, 35 of Lot 8 Liverpool Village, Corentyne; Manley Grant, 52, of Betsy Ground Village, East Canje Berbice; Paul Tyndall, 28, a police officer attached to the Mahaica Police Station and of Lot 2 Manchester Village, Corentyne; Cecil Chisholm, 62, of Lot 10 Ulverston Village, Corentyne; and the missing man boarded a 14-feet boat which was being operated by Tyndall en route to the Upper Canje Creek to make checks on cattle belonging to a person known to them.

However, they reported to police that they were in the Canje Creek aback of New Forest, East Canje Berbice, when the swelling of the water from two boats ahead of them resulted in their boat capsizing.

Stabroek News was told, that the men claimed to have swum to a nearby shore along the New Forest road but then discovered that France was missing and immediately launched a search for him.

However, after they were unable to find the man they went to the Reliance Police Station and filed a report where they were all taken into custody for questioning.

As of yesterday afternoon searches were continuing for France with support from the Maritime Department.
