Miner charged over possession of gun, ammo

A 30-year-old gold miner was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday to answer to the charge of possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Dexter George pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on May 14th, 2022, at Brummel Place, Georgetown, he had in his possession a .32 pistol without being the holder of a firearm licence.

It was also stated that on the said date and at the said address, he had in his possession components of 20 shells of ammunition.  George also denied that charge.

Principal Magistrate, Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus released the man on $20,000 bail.

He was ordered to make his next court appearance on June 6th, 2022.

The father of two told the court that he was in the area when he was wrongfully targeted by a group of security guards.

However, the prosecutor said that when defendant saw the guards he began to run and was caught with the firearm and ammunition in his possession.
