Retrial for man accused of murdering Soesdyke farmer

Donnel Trapp now faces a retrial after a jury was unable to arrive at a verdict on the indictment against him for the 2016 murder of Soesdyke Hill Foot farmer/agriculturalist Anthony Breedy.

Following hours of deliberations, the foreman announced that the 12-member panel was deadlocked and could not arrive at a consensus.

In the circumstances, Justice Jo-Ann Barlow informed Trapp that the jury was hung and that he would remain remanded to be informed by the Director of Public Prosecutions as to when his new trial will commence.

The allegation against Trapp was that he murdered the agriculturist during a robbery between March 12th and 14th, 2016.

The accused was represented by attorneys Dexter Smartt and Jevon Cox; while Senior State Counsel Lisa Cave and Latifah Elliott appeared for the prosecution.

Breedy was discovered in the bottom flat of his Lot 67 Hill Foot, Soesdyke/Linden Highway home.

His hands and feet were bound and his head was bashed in. A piece of wood suspected to be the murder weapon was found at the scene.

A post-mortem examination performed on his remains would later reveal that he died as a result of asphyxia due to manual strangulation compounded by multiple blunt trauma to the head.
