Police ranks come under fire in Region Three

The Guyana Police Force said that a group of its ranks in Regional Division 3 came under fire on Tuesday after attempting to intercept a motorcar transporting three men who had allegedly committed a robbery.

The incident occurred at about 11:30 pm on the La Grange Public Road, West Bank Demerara after the three men, one of whom was armed with a gun, allegedly robbed a 41-year-old John Street, Campbellville, Georgetown resident.

The Police’s statement said that rank were on a patrol when they received the report and went to the area where they attempted to intercept the grey fielder wagon. Upon approaching the vehicle, one of the occupants discharged a round at the police vehicle, prompting the ranks to return fire.

Subsequently, the ranks captured one of the suspects while the other two managed to escape on foot.

The man in custody is said to be from Parfaite Harmonie and is currently detained at the Wales Police Station along with the vehicle.

Investigations are ongoing.
