Defending champions, Barbados Women, strolled to a comfortable nine-wicket win over Leeward Islands yesterday as the CG Insurance T20 Blaze continued.

The second-round encounter at the National Stadium, Providence, saw Leewards bundled out for a paltry 60 in 18.2 overs. Barbados then required a mere 6.4 overs to reach their target of 61, losing only one wicket along the way.

Seamer, Shanika Bruce, got the Commonwealth Games-bound Barbados off to flyer with 3-15. The fast bowler reduced Leewards to 2-3 by the third over and Leewards never recovered.

Trinidad-born Rosalie Dolabaille, batting at three was left stranded on 14 not out from 44 balls. Tiffany Thorpe was the only other batter to reach double figures with 10 before being run out.

Off-spinner, Hayley Matthews, made light work of the middle order to end with 3-9 including the wicket of Davanna Claxton who was trapped leg before wicket for a first-ball duck.

Aaliyah Alleyne and Shakera Selman picked up one wicket each.

Matthews returned with bat in hand to smack three boundaries on her way to 23 not out from 18 balls.

The Bajan skipper added 23 runs for the first wicket before losing Kycia Knight for 12. Nevertheless, Knight’s twin sister, Kyshona, saw Barbados over the line with 15 not out from 12 balls. Her innings featured two boundaries.

Meanwhile, in the opening match of the day, persistent rains ensured no play was possible with both Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago entering the points table with two points each from their abandoned encounter.
