Golden Jaguars seek to break Haiti jinx with first win

The unbeaten Golden Jaguars will face its sternest test to date in League B of the Concacaf Nations League, when they oppose traditional Caribbean giant Haiti today at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora from 16:00hrs.

The Guyanese sport a perfect record following two wins from as many outings. Guyana defeated Montserrat 2-1 in their opening match of the campaign, before getting by Bermuda by an identical score on local shores.

Head to head the two teams have played each other twice with Haiti winning one encounter and the other being drawn.

The two teams first played to a nil all draw in the Digicel Caribbean Cup on November 2, 2010 and again on November 14, 2012 when Haiti won 1-0.

Statistically, Guyana has tallied 14 goals from their previous seven matches at an impressive rate of two goals per fixture. On the defensive end, the Guyanese have conceded eight goals at an average of 1.14 per contest.

Haiti occupies second position at the moment on four points, following a win, and a draw. However, history is on the side of the visitors, as they have never lost to Guyana.

Haiti in their previous five fixtures, possess a record of two wins [2-0 Jordan, 3-2 Montserrat], two losses [1-6 Bahrain, 1-2 Guatemala], and a draw [0-0 Bermuda]. On the attacking end, the Haitians have scored seven goals at 1.4 goals per fixture.

Their defence, however, has allowed 10 concessions at a rate of two goals per encounter. A closer analysis of the numbers indicate that Haiti has scored four goals in the three matches played this year at an average of 1.33. Defensively, they possess identical numbers with four goals allowed at a rate of 1.33.

The Golden Jaguars roster, which is coached by Trinidad and Tobago native Jamaal Shabazz, comprises Goalkeepers Alex Murray, Quillan Roberts [overseas], and Akel Clarke, Defenders Leo Lovell, Sam Cox [overseas], Quincy Adams, Jalen Jones [overseas], Jeremy Garrett, Marcus Wilson, and Matthew Briggs [overseas], Midfielders Ryan Hackett, Daniel Wilson, Nathan Moriah-Welsh [overseas], Clive Nobrega, Anthony Jeffrey [overseas], Neil Danns [overseas], and Job Caesar, and Forwards Trayon Bobb, Omari Glasgow, Kelsey Benjamin, Terell Ondaan [overseas], Pernell Schultz, Stephen Duke-McKenna [overseas], and Tre Medford [overseas].

The Guyanese ended their inaugural Nations League campaign with a record of three wins, two losses, and a draw. The Golden Jaguars defeated Aruba [4-2, 1-0], as well as Antigua and Barbuda [5-1]. However, they suffered defeats against Jamaica [0-4] and Antigua and Barbuda [1-2]. Guyana recorded a draw against Jamaica [1-1].

Guyana is scheduled to play Haiti in the return match on Tuesday in the Dominican Republic at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium.
